Our History


Cape Ann Marketplace on Eastern Avenue in Gloucester was originally part of the old Nugent Farm.

  • 1977 First National Supermarket was built.
  • 1982 Nicholas and Anthony Psalidas purchased the supermarket business and property.
  • 1985-1986 Cape Ann Supermarket was expanded and the rest of the shopping center was built.
  • 1994-1995 Expansion of supermarket.
  • 1995 Supermarket business was purchased by Star Markets Company, Inc. and later by Shaw's Supermarkets.
308 parking spaces (214 shopping center, 59 lower level, 35 back employee lot).
 

Railroad Ave. Marketplace on Railroad Avenue in Gloucester

  • 1960 Elm Farm Supermarket was built.
  • 1965 Anthony and Nicholas Psalidas purchased the supermarket business and property.
  • 1973 Supermarket was expanded and and liquor store was built.
  • 1995 Supermarket business was purchased by Star Markets Company, Inc. and later by Shaw's Supermarkets.
  • 2008 Total renovation completed.
150 parking spaces.
